Immigration Permits

It is noted that the submission of this application does not grant the applicant any right to remain in or enter the Republic without a valid residence permit or visa.
Procedure
- Applications along with the required original documents, as stated in the relevant document lists, should be submitted only at the Offices of the Department in Nicosia. To find out whether an appointment is needed follow this link. All documents accompanying application forms should be officially translated and duly certified/ ratified.
- Applications can be submitted personally or through an authorised representative.
- Applications that are not accompanied by all the required documents will not be accepted for consideration.
- Any change in the applicant’s data during the examination of the application should be notified immediately to the Department.
- For the application submission, the amount for applicable fees shall be paid as stated below.
- For the issuance of the residence permit capturing of biometric data (photo and fingerprints) and signature of the third country national is necessary, which is done with the presentation of the application submission receipt and a valid travel document. The biometric data can be captured at the same time with the application submission or after the application submission or examination, at the offices of the Department in Nicosia or at the district unit of the Aliens and Immigration Service of the Police of the district of residence of the third country national. From persons who have not reached the age of six years at the time of submitting the application only the photo is captured.
- In case the application is approved, you will receive a letter notifying you on how to receive your residence permit.
- In case the application is rejected, you will receive a letter informing you for the rejection reasons.
Fees
- The fees for submitting this application amount to €500 for all persons included in the application.
- There is an additional fee of €70 in case that the applicant or one of his/her family members need to obtain an Aliens Registration Certificate.
Application and required documents
The relevant application forms (MIP2) and the lists with the required documents can be obtained from the Offices of the Migration Department in Nicosia and from here.
Duration of immigration permit
- The residence right of such permits is of unlimited validity, for the holder and his/her adult dependents. The residence permit (card), however, has an expiry date of ten years from the date of its issuance and must be replaced with its expiration.
- The residence permit which is issued to the underage dependents is valid until the age of 18.
Required action after approval
An Immigration Permit shall cease to be valid if the interested person and his/her dependents fail to acquire residence in Cyprus within one year from the approval of the application, in case that they are residing outside Cyprus.
Loss of the permanent residence right
An Immigration Permit shall cease to be valid if the interested person and his/her dependents acquire permanent residence abroad or be absent from Cyprus for a period of two years.
Category A
Persons who intend to work as self-employed in agriculture, animal husbandry, poultry farming or fish farming in the Republic, provided that they have in their possession adequate land or permission to acquire same, they have fully and freely at their disposal capital of approximately €430,000 (CY£250,000) or such lesser sum, as the Immigration Control Committee may determine, and such an employment should not negatively affect the general economy of the Republic.
Category B
Persons who intend to work as self-employed in mining enterprises in the Republic, provided that they have in their possession a relative license that might be necessary to enable them to engage in mining research or mining business, they have fully and freely at their disposal capital of approximately €350,000 (CY£200,000) or such lesser sum, as the Immigration Control Committee may determine, and such an employment should not negatively affect the general economy of the Republic.
Category C
Persons who intend to work as self-employed in a trade or profession in the Republic, provided that they have in their possession a relative license, they have fully and freely at their disposal capital of approximately €260,000 (CY£150,000) or such lesser sum, as the Immigration Control Committee may determine, and such an employment should not affect negatively the general economy of the Republic.
Category D
Persons who intend to work as self-employed in an occupation or science in the Republic, provided that they are duly qualified to practice their profession or science in the Republic, they are in the possession of sufficient funds or secured income to enable them to give effect to this intention, for which there is a need for additional members of such profession or science in the Republic.
Category E
Persons who have been offered and intend to accept permanent employment in the Republic, which will not create undue local competition in the type of the employment in which they indent to be engaged.
Category F
Persons who possess and have fully and freely at their disposal from abroad a secured annual income of an appropriate amount to allow them a decent living in Cyprus, without having to engage in any business, trade or profession in the Republic. The annual income required should be at least €9,568 (CY£5,600) for the applicant and moreover at least €4,613 (CY£2,700) for every dependent person. This income may include pensions, dividends from shares, fixed deposits interest, rents a.s.o.

All documents accompanying application forms should be officially translated and duly certified/ ratified.
According to Regulation 4 of the Aliens and Immigration Regulations the Immigration Control Committee examines applications for Immigration Permits. The Committee submits its recommendations for these applications to the Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, who is the competent authority for granting such permits. An Immigration Permit will not be granted to anybody unless the Immigration Control Committee recommends to the eputy Minister of Migration and International Protection that such person belongs to one of the Categories referred to, as in Regulation 5.
An Immigration Permit shall cease to be valid if the interested person fails to acquire residence in Cyprus within one year from the approval of the application, in case he/she is residing outside Cyprus. It shall also cease to be valid if he/she acquires permanent residence abroad or be absent from Cyprus for a period of two years.
According to Regulation 8 of the Aliens and Immigration Regulations, a holder of an Immigration Permit can include his/her spouse and children under the age of 18 as dependent persons on his/her permit.
It is noted that the submission of this application does not grant the applicant any right to remain in or enter the Republic without a valid residence permit or visa.
Dependent family members of an Immigration Permit holder are the spouse and the children under the age of 18.
For the addition of a family member on an already approved Immigration Permit the following documents should be submitted:
- Form MIP2
- Copy of valid passport of the dependent person.
- Declaration of a secured annual income for the Immigration Permit holder (original documents and affidavit).
- Original Criminal Record Certificate for the spouse, duly certified and officially translated (if the applicant resides abroad, the certificate must be issued from his/her country of residence)
- Marriage Certificate duly certified and officially translated (original or certified copy).
- Children’s Birth Certificates dully certified and officially translated (original or certified copy).
- The fees for submitting this application amount to €50 for each persons included in the application.
- There is an additional fee of €70 in case that the family members need to obtain an Aliens Registration Certificate.
